In preparation for the residency, the Harbourtown Fine Arts Center will undergo renovations to its historic building and theatre to bring the nationally registered center back to its former glory.
About Harbourtown Fine Arts Center
The Harbourtown Fine Arts Center was started as a grassroots 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing, and maintaining, the fine arts in Vermilion and to purchase, and to accurately restore, the Old Town Hall. The historic brick building was built in 1883 and is one of the last hemp theaters remaining in America. The building was used for government offices on the first floor with a beautiful opera hall, the hub of Vermilion's social life, on the second floor. HFAC purchased the building on September 28, 2020, and has begun the process of a complete historic restoration. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
