Fall Collection

Event description

Fall Ballet Collection – presented by The Cleveland Ballet
All in one evening
Classic, glamorous and provocative

Choreography, Gladisa Guadalupe

Momentum’s choreography is inspired by the ability to express fast body motion without compromising quality of movement. Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor is one score that is appropriate for such expression. Enjoy three movements of pure velocity, inspiring melody and breathtaking tempos.

Flames of Paris, pas de deux

Original choreography, Vasily Vainonem

Known as a so-called “revolutionary” ballet, its choreography is purely classical, displaying virtuosity and bravura in both the female and male dancers.

Don Quixote, pas de deux

Original choreography, Marius Petipa

A pas de deux filled with bravura, exceptional technique and magnificent artistry.

Choreography, Gladisa Guadalupe

Inspired by tango music, Provocativo takes place at a café where dancers, musicians, singers and actors gather together to ‘loosen up’ from their demands as artists, allowing themselves to be exposed to seduction, passion, desire, romance and ultimately to new love adventures. This one act ballet brings a sublime, sensuous performance to open Cleveland Ballet’s 4th season. Provocativo is an incredible display of playful and skilled choreography executed at fast speed, with impeccably precise, intricate footwork. Seductive and sultry, Provocativo evokes the intoxicating passion of late nights in arts cafes and presents a raw, sophisticated performance that is not to be missed!

CLEVELAND, OH, September 14, 2018: Cleveland Ballet invites members of the press to attend an Open Rehearsal of the Fall Collection, a series of fast-paced, seductive works featuring the world-premiere of an original one-act ballet by artistic director Gladisa Guadalupe. The show will premiere October 19-20 at the Ohio Theatre in Playhouse Square. The first act of the show begins with the aptly-named Momentum, a fast-tempoed ballet set to Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto no. 1 in G minor, then continues with two famous pas de deux, Flames of Paris by Vasily Vanonem, often referred to as the “revolutionary ballet,” and Don Quixote by Marius Petipa. In the second act, the show culminates with world premiere one-act ballet by Gladisa Guadalupe entitled Provocativo. Set in a late-night Argentinian café where artists gather to “loosen up” from their daily demands, the dancers find themselves exposed to seduction, passion, and ultimately to new love adventures. This piece will feature musicians performing live tango music on stage with the dancers during the performance. World reknowned bandeon musician Julien Labro will perform on the stage with well-known musicians and Russian tenor Mikhail Urusov. Guadalupe picked up a set of Astor Piazzola’s music for her choreography. Contact Office Manager Maureen Basista with any questions: maureen@clevelandballet.org.
