Born in Cuba, he started his training at the age of 7 at Pro-Danza (Laura Alonso’s ballet school). At the age of nine he was admitted into the National Ballet School of Cuba and finished his training under the tutelage of Nancy Raffa with Miami City Ballet School where he was offered a position with the main company at the age of 17.
During his 16-year career as a professional dancer, he danced with many companies around the country, most notably, ABT Studio Company, Joffrey Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Ballet West, and Smuin Ballet. He also has been a principal guest artist with Michigan Ballet Theater, Utah Regional Ballet and Gregory Hancock Dance Theater. During this time, he performed works from Balanchine, Messine, Kurt Joss, Jiri Kylian, Michael Smuin, Robert Joffrey, Gerald Arpino, Amy Seiwert, Benjamin Millepied, Gregory Hancock, Helen Picket, Frederick Ashton, and John Cranko, as well as roles ranging from corps to principal in many of the full-length classical ballets.
Also, during this time, he gained experience as a teacher and coach, teaching for URB school, Joffrey Ballet summer program, GHDT academy, as well as appearing as a guest teacher for many academies around the country.
This is Eddie’s first year with Cleveland Ballet and he is excited to be working with a talented group of dancers and staff to keep bringing dance to and elevating dance in the Cleveland area.
