As the curtain rises at Playhouse Square after a year when the coronavirus kept it down, the roster of shows continues to grow.
Cleveland Ballet announced this week that it will make its 2021 return to Cleveland's theater district with two shows this year (Don Quixote, Oct. 15-16; The Nutcracker, Dec. 3-5) and one slated for 2022 (A Midsummer Night's Dream, May 6-7).

Cleveland Ballet will return to Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens on June 4 and 5 to perform its family-favorite ballet “ Alice” as part of its newest Northeast Ohio tour.
The ballet company welcomed back award-winning choreographer Margo Sappington to adapt her ballet for the tour. She originally created the work for the company, based on Lewis Carroll's books " Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass," in 2018.Learn More

By the end of March, the Cleveland Ballet’s prospects were bleak. The company was barely five years old, without an endowment, and responsible for the salaries of its five full-time and two part-time staff, plus 24 dancers—many of whom had moved to the city from other countries for the job. As increased COVID-19 restrictions have led to cancellations or changed plans for several live holiday performances at Akron-area theaters, one live Christmas show, "The Nutcracker," is continuing next weekend at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.
The Cleveland Ballet will be at Stan Hywet on Dec. 6 for an abridged performance of "The Nutcracker," which starts after the story's battle between the life-sized toy soldiers and mice that results in the Mouse King's death. The early part of the tale will be handled by narration.
It was so cold for the Cleveland Ballet performances outside at Stan Hywet last weekend, dancers wrapped in blankets huddled around heat lamps offstage and moisture on the small outdoor stage had to be wiped down repeatedly to prevent dancer injuries during outdoor shows Friday and Saturday nights.Learn More
