Cleveland Ballet Announces Second Season

Featuring Two Original Productions and Collaborations with Cleveland Musicians

CLEVELAND, OH August 23—On the heels of its critically acclaimed, sold-out original production of “Coppelia,” in May, Cleveland Ballet adds further excitement to its preview season with the announcement of two more upcoming original productions: “A Celebration of Dance and Music” to be performed in October and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” in April 2017. Both productions will premiere in Cleveland at Playhouse Square’s Ohio Theater.
On Tuesday, October 11, Cleveland Ballet will stage, “A Celebration of Dance and Music” featuring original choreography by Ramón Thielen, former principal dancer of Cleveland-San Jose Ballet and Dance Theatre of Harlem. Performing onstage with the Cleveland Ballet resident company, will be Alexandra Preucil, violinist of The Cleveland Orchestra and a select group of musicians from the Orchestra. Opera Tenor Mikhail Urusov will also accompany the dancers and musicians with a selection of arias.
In April 2017, Cleveland Ballet celebrates the return of “Coppélia” choreographer Ramón Oller, who will choreograph an original version of Mendelssohn’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
“Our team is working hard to create a second season with programming designed to thrill our supporters, bring ballet back to the Ohio Theater, and to attract new fans who are just discovering Cleveland Ballet,” exclaims Gladisa Guadalupe, Artistic Director. “Cleveland Ballet is all about creating classical ballet with an eye to the contemporary by commissioning international choreographers to create original works just for Cleveland. What’s better than that?“
In addition to these productions, Cleveland Ballet will perform with various cultural partners. On September 16, the company will appear at Bedford’s Celebration of the Pooka, on November 23, the City of Bedford Holiday Lighting Ceremony, and in December, with the School of Cleveland Ballet. Cleveland Ballet will continue its education outreach programs with Bedford and Maple Heights City School Districts as well as Andrews Osborne Academy.
